London Agreement

Finland acceded to the London Agreement, which is a  protocol relating to the European Patent Convention. The accession took place on 1 November 2011, and after that date patent claims shall only be translated into Finnish provided that the language of the patent is English.

What we need from you

The only thing we must have from you is a written order to validate a European patent, and the application number of the patent. We recommend sending the order via email or fax. A Power of Attorney is not required.

Upon receipt of your order, we will download the patent specification and the "Decision to Grant"  form from the EPO database, and then confirm your order by email.

After a translation has been submitted to the Finnish patent office and the relevant official fee has been paid, we will email you a report with enclosures. In due course, after publication of the translated EP patent in Finland, we will email you a soft copy of the patent publication.

Cost of Validation
(as of 1 October 2011)

Several firms offer EP validation services in Finland, and each naturally has its own price schedule for services it provides. However, the fees they charge may be rather high. When using our service the cost to validate a European patent is comprised of three components:

  •  Official publication fee payable to the Finnish Patent Office of 350 Euro
  • Agent fee, which is  the professional fee for handling the validation (flat fee), of 405 Euro
  •  Translation fee, which is 0,22 Euro per unit. Each unit is considered 8 characters in the translation

Please note that we do not outsource any of the translations, but perform the work in-house.

There are no surprise charges, hidden fees or fees such as postage, photocopying or stationary. The fees we charge up front are the only ones you will pay for your patent validation.

Please note that our prices do not include any post-validation costs such as annuities, and the fee schedule above is only applicable if we email you a filing report with attachments. Otherwise, disbursements such as copying and postage will be charged.
